In February 2026, Inta Mieriņa was appointed an ERC Ambassador, joining the European-wide Ambassadors for the ERC initiative. The network brings together ERC grantees from EU Member States and countries associated with Horizon Europe to promote excellence-driven frontier research, raise awareness of ERC funding opportunities, and strengthen the research community.
As both an ERC grantee and ERC Ambassador, Professor Mieriņa is keen to use her experience to provide practical support to other researchers. She is available for consultations, mentoring, and experience sharing on ERC proposal preparation, including discussing project ideas, providing feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of proposals, and sharing insights into the ERC evaluation and interview process.
Professor Mieriņa’s own journey towards securing an ERC grant demonstrates that a successful proposal requires not only an excellent research idea but also careful and strategic preparation. Before receiving her grant, she applied to the ERC several times, using the experience and feedback gained through each attempt to strengthen subsequent applications. Consultations, mock interviews, and critical external feedback on the project idea were particularly valuable in preparing her successful application.
For this reason, Professor Mieriņa emphasises the importance of sharing experience within the research community. The number of successful ERC grantees in Latvia remains relatively small, making opportunities to consult researchers who have personally gone through the ERC application and evaluation process especially valuable.
Researchers who are preparing an ERC proposal, considering applying, or would simply like to discuss their project idea are welcome to contact Inta Mieriņa: inta.mierina@lu.lv
